THE CHEER PITT KANSAS CITY 2024-2025 TRYOUT INFORMATION
PRE-TRYOUT CLINICS:
Pre-Tryout Clinics will be held on Monday, May 13th and Wednesday, May 15th. These clinics are split up per level and designed to help athletes prepare for tryouts. Our coaching staff will be available to help with the material and provide recommendations on which tryout level to learn. Athletes are welcome to attend as many clinics as they would like.
TRYOUT INFORMATION:
All-Star Prep Tryouts will be held on Thursday, May 16th. All-Star Elite Tryouts will be held on Saturday, May 18th. Athletes should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to their registered tryout time to warm-up on their own.
Athletes will need to sign up for one tryout time via iClassPro by Wednesday, May 1st. A makeup tryout date will be available on Wednesday, May 22nd for athletes unable to attend on 5/16 or 5/18.
*NEW* Athletes will only be able to tryout for an All-Star Elite Team if they have had at least one full year of competitive cheer experience (not including rec) OR have at least all level 1 elite skills mastered. Athletes who are brand new to All-Star Cheerleading will tryout for an All-Star Prep Team and may be asked to join All-Star Elite based on the needs of the team following tryouts.
TRYOUT MATERIAL:
Athletes trying out for an All-Star Elite Team should select one level to learn for their tryout evaluation. Athletes should choose the level that they are able to execute ALL of the required skills with strong technique and consistency. Tumbling skills during tryouts will be performed exactly in the order as shown on the video link as well as with the same 8-count mix. The tryout process should be stress-free with skills you can execute cleanly and confidently.
Athletes who are interested in trying out for a flying position should also learn the material provided to perform during their evaluation. Please note: Trying out for a flying position does not guarantee this stunting spot.

Tryout material is ONLY for All-Star Elite Tryouts. Athletes trying out for All-Star Prep do NOT need to learn any material and will simply just be asked to show any current skills they have during tryouts.
WHAT DO I NEED TO TURN IN BEFORE TRYOUTS?:
Participant Waiver (New Members Only)
Tryout & Level Practice Fee (Due Online Upon Tryout Sign Up)
WHAT DO I WEAR TO TRYOUTS?:
Athletes may wear any athletic apparel (tank/t-shirt, sports bra, shorts/leggings, and cheer shoes). Hair should be pulled back and away from face. No jewelry of any kind will be allowed.
LEVEL PRACTICES:
May 27th through June 7th: During level practice weeks, we will assess athletes based on their potential level or teams. Athletes will attend the specific dates/times shared via email by Thursday, May 23rd.
TEAM PLACEMENTS:
Team placements are designed to be low stress. Each athlete will be assigned to a team, regardless or their prior experience. Please note: Selecting All-Star Elite does not guarantee a child a position on that program. Specific tumbling and stunting skills are required to be considered for our All-Star Elite program.
Our staff looks at a variety of areas when choosing teams. This includes jumps and stunting ability, performance, coach-ability, previous attendance, and being positive with teammates. Tumbling is a big part, but “throwing” skills, and “mastering” skills with the correct technique are two different things. If your athlete only wants to be a part of our program if they are assigned to a certain level or team position, then we do not recommend our program for your family. This is a TEAM sport, and we can only be successful TOGETHER. Our goal is to place each athlete on the team where they will experience the most success, play an active role in the routine, and to challenge them to grow and reach their full potential.
UNDERSTANDING THE SCORESHEET:
The industry as a whole is moving more into a safe progression model. This may mean some athletes are not placed on a level where they are used to performing. However, please be assured they have been placed where it is best for their overall growth as an athlete.
Individual tumbling passes are no longer part of the scoresheet. For example, at least 80% of the team must in sync and complete two of the tumbling skills listed under the attached Elite Level Appropriate section of skill. The jump and stunt requirements have increased as well. Now the entire team must be used in each area. Technique and difficulty scores have also increased, making them both equally important. We are looking for athletes that have mastered, with perfect technique and consistency, the elite skills listed when forming teams so we can ensure we set each team up for success from the beginning.
Please see attached skills checklist for the upcoming season. We will use this checklist as a starting point throughout tryouts and level practices. We will continue to monitor skills throughout the season to enhance and track your child’s growth in their skills in a safe progression manner. Please know that much thought and discussion will go into each child’s placement and their own individual journey and longevity in this sport. Their placement will be one that develops both their growth and confidence.
